Could Carmelo To The Knicks Really Happen?

Carmelo Anthony expects to be traded by the Denver Nuggets, preferably to the New York Knicks.

Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul have both expressed their desire to become New York Knicks.

From ESPN

Well, here’s more good news for the hungriest fan base in the NBA: A whopping 64.5 percent of our panelists think Melo will be wearing orange and blue next season (and this survey was taken before Monday’s news that he plans to part ways with the Nuggets). What’s more, 26 members of our panel think CP3 will be his point guard. Sure, New York will have to do some roster maneuvering to make all of this happen. But as we saw with the Heat this summer, anything is possible if the players want it to happen.

CP3 aside, a Melo-Knicks union makes sense on many levels. He and his wife are both natives of New York. (Carmelo moved to Baltimore when he was 8.) He played college ball at Syracuse and loves MSG. And, from a purely basketball standpoint, can you imagine a scoring machine like Melo in Mike D’Antoni’s high-powered offense? He would become the Knicks’ most dynamic wing player since Bernard King, to whom Anthony is often compared, and the Knicks could instantly become contenders.

Alternate Logo: The New York Knicks

August 10, 2010 By: Katchop Category: NBA

Between the LeBron saga and now Isiah Thomas, it’s embarrassing times for The New York Knicks.

The New York Knicks have re-hired Isiah Thomas as a consultant, so a new logo for the franchise is needed.

From The Wall Street Journal

In case you didn’t notice the boiling red cloud of agita that blasted through the city on Friday, the Knicks rehired former president and coach Isiah Thomas as a consultant.

Yes, that Isiah Thomas. The one who helmed the Knicks through five rudderless seasons of doom. The one who left town after the embarrassing $11.5 million settlement of a harassment lawsuit.

Mr. Thomas was an epic fail. Drummed out in 2008, he was supposed to be Pariah Thomas, gone for good, so his Lazarus act has New York flipping its lid. The scorching outrage has singed sports radio.

But we can’t summon the anger. We laugh—because it hurts too much to cry.

From The Huffington Post

NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire went to Israel last week to discover his Jewish roots on his mothers side. As the speculation has grown about whether or not the current New York Knick is Jewish, a clear-cut answer has yet to emerge.

Stoudemire recently discussed his trip and the goals of his visit to Israel in an interview on Israeli television. When asked whether he is Jewish, Stoudemire said “through history, we all are.” He even speaks a little Hebrew — just like Shaq!

From Fanhouse

There were 19 players in camp competing to make the final 12-man roster, and USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said the number will be cut to 15 by Monday in preparation for the Aug. 10-16 camp in New York.

Colangelo told FanHouse after the game that Sacramento guard Tyreke Evans being cut is “pretty obvious.” Evans, who missed the final three practices and Saturday’s game due to a sprained left ankle, had told FanHouse on Friday he didn’t expect to survive the cut, and Colangelo had pretty much agreed with that.

From SB Nation

He’s a very young and immature kid who smoked too much marijuana and has told me that he’s not smoking anymore. … if you had given me this kind of money and put me in this kind of world with these kinds of pressures attached to it and some of the demands, I don’t know (that) I would have handled it any easier than, say, he has.”

But I feel very strongly that some of these kids simply deserve the opportunity to make mistakes and grow up.”

Chris Paul has asked to be traded from the New Orleans Hornets, with the Knicks, Lakers and Magic as his top 3 choices.

From The NY Daily News

“He wants out,” said a person familiar with Paul’s exit strategy, according to the report. “He wants to play with another superstar. He wants to follow LeBron’s model of teaming up with other great players.”

Newly acquired Amar’e Stoudemire represents an enticing teammate to Paul, 25, who earlier this month reportedly toasted to the idea of forming “our own Big Three” with Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony in New York. But the Knicks would have to come up with a good enough offer for the Hornets, who still planned to meet with Paul to sell the direction of a franchise that’s rebuilding and failed to make the playoffs last season.
